I am looking for full
time groom willing to travel to shows with Grand Prix rider and riding school
clientele. Groom must be able to fit tack correctly on horses, also keeping
it in good condition, checking it for wear and cleaning it thoroughly and
regularly. They must show skills in aspects of grooming such as trimming,
braiding, bandaging, and preparing horses for show. Mucking out stalls only
while at shows is required, along with the ability to help organize, load,
and unload equipment for showing. 40 hour-weeks while not showing with flexible
days off; extended hours during showing. Daily work while not showing would
include grooming and clipping horses, working young horses on the lunge, cleaning
school tack, equine first aid, minimal general property maintenance. Riding
skills are not necessary, but opportunities are available. The main prerequisite
for groom is a great love of horses and a desire to care for them. Patience,
willingness to work long hours and carry out routine tasks are necessary.
Tally Ho Farm is a show jumping and hunter lesson facility specializing in
teaching children to adults. We have approximately 35 school horses and board
another 50 client horses. During the show season, we compete approximately
two weeks per month, at various locations in the south, from as far east as
Kentucky to as far north as Oklahoma. Job applicants should be eager to take
part in the grooming and care of lesson horses as well as some work with young
breeding stock while at home; in addition they should be willing to traveling
on the road with the show horses. They must work well with others and take
instruction easily. A maturity and responsible nature is a must.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsibilities
include but are not limited to teaching courses related to Stable Management,
Equine Anatomy, Nutrition, Dressage and Hunt Seat. You will manage a string
of school horses. In addition to this, actively participating in shows, recruiting
of students and horses and participating in all departmental shows and clinic
where applicable is required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: A
combination of solid academic background and work-related experience in the
field is extremely desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to
teach at the Undergraduate level, be committed to a continuing, professional
development program; have established links to the equestrian community or
the ability and motivation to establish those links. Salary will be commensurate
with education and experience.
